ARTICLE IS BEING REVISED AND EDITED, WILL BE COMPLETED SOON
At the time of writing, there are at least two serious wars under way in the world. Both of them could have serious repercussions regarding the fate of this world, and of all of us.
We have been battling through a long period of a pandemic, which has interrupted and radically changed life for many of us. Ongoing economic woes, and the inability of governments to stabilize economies and lead countries into prosperity, means that it feels even harder now to make a living, to get by, than it ever was before.
There is a powerful debate raging throughout the nations of the world about climate change. Leading scientists are unsure whether it is real or not. If it is real, there is the frightening possibility that we have left it too late to apply the rigorous measures needed to reverse it. On a more personal level, due to rises in food, energy and housing prices, day to day life has increasingly become a struggle.
So with all of this going on, how is it possible to write an article announcing 'Everything will be Okay'? Seriously?
I am reminded of the fact that when I started out as a therapist and counsellor, the centre where I was working conducted a thorough survey of the local population. It was thought prudent to find out what the local people really wanted, in terms of life improvement. Other than better communication skills, the most frequent response was 'peace of mind'
What if it is possible to achieve peace of mind despite any and all trying circumstances?
And what if it is possible that outside of our own experiences and viewpoints, we could discover that inherently and intrinsically, everything is okay with this world and this universe?
To explore these ideas, we will look at the experiences of Eckhart Tolle and Byron Katie, two of today's spiritual coaches and leaders. Both of them experienced a profound and powerful spontaneous transformation, an experience that released them from deep states of depression and dismay. We will look at the work of Steven Taylor, a UK based psychologist who has researched and written extensively on the subject of transformation and human awakening.
We'll explore how to employ techniques from therapy, meditation and life coaching, to see to it that deep and lasting transformation need not be some kind of divine accident, but something that is available to everyone.
We will also explore the worldview of Michael Beckwith, a prominent spiritual leader and teacher based in the USA.
He has provided a simple map that explains the potential progress, the spiritual evolution, that we must all go through to achieve peace of mind.
We will explore the idea of death, as it can be the source of an underlying anxiety that undercuts all of our attempts to build confidence and peace in our lives. We will rationally examine and try to tame any anxiety on this issue.
We will try to ascertain the actual state of the world, as opposed to the information fed to us by government funded news agencies. Governments who have a vested interest in having us believe that the world is a dangerous and difficult place, and there is nothing we can do about it. Here we will look at the work of George Manbiot, Steven Pinker, Dr Hans Rosling, Rutger Bregman and others.
And then finally, we will draw some conclusions from all of this.
Taken from notes for my forthcoming book, Everything Will Be Okay, to be released in 2026.
