Everything Will Be Okay
At the time of writing, there are at least two serious wars under way in the world. Both of them could have serious repercussions regarding the fate of this world, and of all of us.
We have been battling through a long period of a pandemic, which has interrupted and radically changed life for many of us.
Ongoing economic woes, and the inability of governments to stabilize economies and lead countries into prosperity, means that it feels even harder now to make a living, to get by, than it ever was before.
There is a powerful debate raging throughout the nations of the world about climate change. Leading scientists are unsure whether it is real or not. If it is real, there is the frightening possibility that we have left it too late to apply the rigorous measures needed to reverse it.
So with all of this going on, how is it possible to write an article announcing 'Everything will be Okay'? Seriously?
Am I about to start spruiking religious concepts? Not at all.
It is simply that after 40 years of counselling, life coaching, and management consulting, I realized that it was possible to develop this kind of mindset, no matter what. I was able to guide clients through all kinds of heartbreak, bankruptcies, frightening medical diagnoses, and all the challenges life can conjure up. And yet I saw people not only maintaining an air of cheerfulness, but actually developing a deep strength and resilience that nothing, no calamity or disaster, could shatter.
Having experienced my own difficulties with long-term illness, financial losses and difficulties, and even homelessness, I knew what it felt like to have to meet serious challenges. But in my own life challenges, I was also able to experience my own resilience, as well as having glimpses into the 'okayness' of life and the universe.
There is something about life, and something about US, that makes it possible to think that things will turn out okay.
I am going to outline two possibilities in this article…(and in subsequent articles)…
(1) Everything Will Be Okay is a mindset. A decision, or a collection of decisions and beliefs that things will be okay no matter what.
(2) Everything Will Be Okay then develops into an awareness, a realization that things WILL be okay no matter what. Things WILL be okay, even when they are not okay. Reaching this awareness takes more work, but it is possible to reach it, and I will outline some steps of how to get there.
What is going on, here on planet earth?
We are EVOLVING. Not just as a species. But we are in a process, of mental, emotional and spiritual evolution.
When we recognize this, and align with this, we experience a marvellous FLOW of life. As though the powerful currents of this universe begin to work in our favour, rather than working against us.
But of course, anyone reading this, who does not have the mindset of 'okayness', is going to have to experience a Transformation. I capitalize that, because it is of vital importance to all of us to achieve this Transformation, if we are to move from suffering into a life of greater joy and fulfilment. And I have to acknowledge that it is not easy.
To bring this into sharper focus, I want to discuss an idea suggested by Michael Beckwith, a spiritual leader and advisor in the USA.
He is a healer, coach, therapist, and spiritual leader, based in the USA. He has written a few books, is a favourite of Oprah Winfrey and was on her show several times, and so on. Black guy, he is a minister of his own church, and he’s very likeable. Some of his videos are on You Tube.
He said that in his work, through his long career of helping people, that people do appear to be moving through 4 stages of development. Spiritual development, mental and psychological development, shifts through phases of consciousness, call it what you will.
Level 1….To Me…this is the stage of victim, life is happening TO us, and we seem almost powerless to change what is occurring. This is the belief that something outside of us is determining our happiness, well-being or success in life. Or we are succumbing to the pain and pressure of our unmet needs.
In terms of Cause and Effect, this is where we are at Effect in our life, perhaps in one or more areas, or perhaps in our life overall.
It is possible to be in this Victim consciousness in one area of life, and not in others. I have known people who are quite causative in business, but who are victims in relationships. Or people who are causative in various aspects of life, but who are victims when it comes to money and finances. And so on.
Level 2….By Me…this is the stage where we begin to learn to manifest what we want in life. Through therapy, meditation, spiritual practices, or simply by gradually conquering life, we begin to tap into our inner potential. We begin to move from Effect to Cause. This is the stage of 'making something happen' as Beckwith says. Part of this level is the dawning realization that we are actually creating our own reality, all the time. It may be that all of our experiences are governed by our own choices in life…and by our desires, expectations, beliefs, ideas, traumas, disappointments, decisions…and so on.
A huge relief to move out of a victim consciousness stage, to a causative stage of consciousness. For me, this transition often comes through reading, acquiring knowledge and insight into something I am wrestling with. But as I say, meditation, therapy, coaching, all are valid approaches towards achieving this shift.
Level 3….Through Me…we are now beginning to really see and believe in the positive nature of life, we can see and feel that something in the universe is connecting with us and working through us for our good, and for the good of others. This is the stage of not merely making things happen, but also of 'making something welcome'. It is a shift away from battling life and its challenges and hostilities, and beginning to realize that there seem to be friendly agencies, elements, in life. Perhaps we begin to see that the Universe itself is actually a friendly place to be.
Level 4…As Me….the separation between us and the universe is now dissolving. We begin to feel at One with all of life. This is a level of surrender. If negative events do happen, nothing can shake us from our state of positivity. Everything is as it was meant to be.
Many writers in the realm of spiritual philosophy refer to this as 'non-duality'. Being One with everything, and finding that the core of existence is actually love, and joy.

Many people will not be interested in stages 3 and 4. This may be true for you also. Perhaps your current focus is on winning in life, moving from stage 1 to stage 2. This can be your First Transformation. And it may be as far as you want to go, for now. In doing this, you may acquire some strength and resilience, and your understanding of life will undoubtedly become deeper. So the journey towards believing that ‘Everything will be okay’ has certainly begun at this stage.
The key to this First Transformation is to accept responsibility for our lives, and to move out of any kind of Victim mentality we have, into a more Causative view of our lives. And if the idea of being a 'Victim' doesn't sit well with you, you might prefer to think in terms of Cause and Effect. You are Effect in some areas of your life, rather than Causing things to happen. Perhaps in finances, things just seem to keep 'happening' to you. Or you have become convinced that you will never find a suitable life partner, and for some reason you feel condemned to suffer in this area. Perhaps you feel stuck in your job, and the idea of an enjoyable ‘career’ seems to be totally beyond you. Or you may have health problems that don’t seem to want to improve.
Well, Transformation is possible. You can choose an area of your life and decide to become Cause over it. And it will be the first step, or series of steps, towards some kind of genuine peace of mind.
This transformation can be achieved through persistence and work on your part. And you have to aid you, (1) Therapy and counselling (2) Meditation (3) Life coaching (4) Education, and the acquisition of practical, applicable knowledge.
And yes, I am very aware that there are people who are stuck in a loop, people who have become addicted to having problems and who in some way are enjoying the loop they are caught up in. It is always easier to blame something and someone other than oneself. But as long as you continue in this loop, nothing will change. I have worked with many people over the years who seem to think that they can do the same things they have ALWAYS done, and yet somehow get a DIFFERENT result. And when I talk to people in detail about this, it becomes clear that they have not taken charge of their life, there is ‘something else’ in charge of what happens….maybe it is Fate, or God, or Destiny, or Gremlins, or whatever. Well to those people I would say, if I can show you a path to follow that might allow you to get you out of your loop of suffering, would you at least take a look at it?
